This design is an offset (or multi-axis turning) meaning that the centerline is changed many times during the turning of the mill. The Dailey style is named for my family, including my brothers, sister, aunts, and uncles. I don’t know if we are dysfunctional or not, but we definitely seem to be going in many different directions all at the same time.

I’m very particular about the components that go into my products and the crushing mechanisms are no exception. I offer two different types. One of the best is made right here in the United States with a stainless steel mechanism for pepper, while the salt mechanism is made from polycarbonate. The other type we offer is a crushgrind mechanism made in Belgium - and I believe this to be the best available in the world today. You’ll know which mechanism is used in any given piece by it’s name. A piece with the American mechanism will be called a mill; and those with the Belgian mechanism will be called a grinder.
When you look at my designs, you’ll note that I occasionally add one or more “beads” to the base of some of them. I do this so that the user can distinguish between a salt or pepper mill without having to look at the knob on the top. This is especially helpful when ordering our spice grinders because they don’t have a knob. One bead at the bottom, indicates a salt mill while three beads reveal that it’s a pepper mill. Another good rule of thumb is that taller mills connote pepper while the shorter ones signify a salt mill, so you may wish to order different heights if you’re acquiring identical looking mills for salt and another for pepper.
